// What would these beverage industry folks take with them on a desert island? // I asked four different industry colleagues representing the fine cities of Cleveland, Washington, D.C., Kansas City and Tulsa what they would take if they had to live on an inhabited desert island. They are only able to take one item from each category. With a few less strict exceptions for our entertainment, of course, here are there responses. ~ Jason with The LAB team Photo provided by Stacy Neff. Stacy Neff // Co-Owner of One More Cup in Kansas City, MO The LAB: Something to remind you of a loved one... Stacy: Real, tangible photographs are one of my favorite things in the world. I would load up an album with photos of all of my family & friends from throughout the years. The LAB: Something to drink other than water... Stacy: An endless supply of sangria! I have to get my daily fruit intake somehow. The LAB: Music from one band or performer... Stacy: I would most definitely load my MP3 player with all of the songs from Tool. They have been a favorite since middle school, plus their music satisfies many different moods - melancholy, anger, meditative, joyful. The LAB: What one beverage tool would you take... Stacy: A French Press would be my beverage tool of choice. It could be used to brew the coffee naturally growing on the island, but would also be handy with other preparations of drinks and food. Trevor: I'm a self admitted mama's boy, and I still have one of those cheesy key chains you look into and see a picture. There's one of my moms and I from a theme park when I was young, so I would probably bring that. The LAB: Something to drink other than water... Trevor: Probably Angostura bitters. Not only is it delicious on its own, or with water, but could be useful to help resolve any stomach issues that can be presented living on an island. The LAB: Music from one band or performer... Trevor: As a music geek, this is really tough for me, but I'm going have to go with Stevie Ray Vaughn. I have spent many a sunrise and sunset listening to his music, and I always find myself inspired by his music. The LAB: What one beverage tool would you take... Trevor: A 50 cm Trident Stirring spoon! It's like a spork on steroids. Photo from Red Cedar Coffee's Instagram account. Anne Denton // Director of Sales and Marketing at Red Cedar Coffee Co. in Cleveland, OH The LAB: Something to remind you of a loved one... Anne: One of my grandfather’s books that is a compilation of English literature since 1700. The LAB: Something to drink other than water... Anne: Petit Verdot from Virginia for an evening drink. The LAB: Music from one band or performer... Anne: David Bowie! It’s not unusual to notice a new element in songs of his that you’ve listened to for years. The LAB: What one beverage tool would you take... Anne: A Minipresso for my espresso fix. Photo on left from Topeca Coffee's Facebook page and right photo from Caffeine Crawl. Tyler Duncan // Wholesale Trainer and Instructor at Topeca Coffee in Tulsa, OK The LAB: Something to read... Tyler: Narnia, hands down. I try to read those books once a year to better myself. The LAB: Something to eat... Tyler: Tacos. No contest. The LAB: Music from one band or performer... Tyler: This spotify account that Rusty Angell from Bunn hooked me up on. It’s his account, and he had a spare spot so he added me. But, if I had to choose a CD, it’d be the first mixtape that my wife made me when we knew each other for only about a couple weeks. It had a note with all the songs and her reasoning for the songs. Song number 5 was Blood by The Middle East. Her reasoning was simple, “Because Kiss Me”. So, I did, and here we are today. Sad song. Beautiful song; sad, though. The LAB: Something to drink... Tyler: Shamelessly, this Kenya Gichichi Peaberry (and all the brewing accoutrement, and spare batteries…). We try to do at least one Kenya Peaberry annually, and this one did not disappoint.
