~ Cafes, cold brew and one of the best beverage scenes in the country came together for a great weekend Caffeine Crawling through Portland, Oregon. ~

~ Caffeine Crawl, Coffee Fest, Portland Cocktail Week ~ libations flowed freely in the Rose City this week, & our team drank it up. ~
~ We asked 6 inspiring guys from the world of artisan beverages the same 2 questions,
and they answered. ~ Once upon a time, there was an earnest woman who lived in a cottage in the Missouri countryside with her red-bearded husband and small daughter. Toying with opening a coffeehouse in the middle of nowhere, she reached out to a dyno-man she hardly knew, and landed an internship in beverage marketing. Which led to a job in beverage marketing, which led to two years of fun. Across the continent (lots of times), rapidly learning business practices (sometimes the hard way), and full of the confusion that arises from changing careers in a halfhearted way (twice), giving birth, and marrying, all in short succession, that woman pursued her work with the dyno-man.
~ Livin' like the locals in Fort Collins means hopping behind the bar at a new coffee shop for Sadie, while Jason sips on small pours and reps KC beer. ~
~ ~ ~ What we drank this week (and how we felt about it), in no particular order. This was a big time Boulevard week for me for a variety of reasons. I had a Pale Ale with some of the country's best bbq at Bryant's, celebrated with a cellared bottle of Long Strange Tripel after co-hosting a benefit in KC, and enjoyed a sample pack with the crew of that benefit during rehersals a few nights earlier. Love that Mid-Coast IPA.
Other great local stops included Bier Station for a tasting of Michigan beers Bell's and New Holland, and a Friday night stop at Underdog Wine Co. for a terrific value wine, a bottle of 2012 Bodegas Castano "Solanera Vinas Viejas" Yecla. - Jason |
