Caffeine Crawl Portland was a caffeinated dream - relive the first half with us here! Packing Yelp event bags with goodies from Espresso Parts, Coffee Fest, Earnest Eats & more happened in the gorgeous new space of Catalyst Coffee Consulting - their Crawl routes would later get a lesson in green coffee and the differences in defect vs. higher quality beans, with special guests Dominion Trading Coffee. Sisters Coffee Company kicked off our Wednesday night route with great hospitality, an aroma & taste testing game and an interview with KOIN 6. Caffeine Crawl Portland - off to a great start! Alma Chocolate served up Thai Peanut Lime Chile bars and their Good Food award winning Sea Salt Hazelnut Crunch bar, as well as delightful rosemary chocolate shortbread & the history behind Alma. White peach kombucha preceded nitro tapped cold brew with milk added at The Arbor Lodge, and Scott was happy to answer Crawler questions. Tasting the 'best hot chocolate in Oregon' is one thing - sampling it affogato style over Salt and Straw olive oil ice cream with caramelized cacao nibs and sea salt is another matter entirely. Thanks for the little taste of heaven, Cacao! 'Coffee mocktail' took on new, citrusy, delicious meanings at Either / Or cafe. Good Coffee poured brews and pulled shots of a great Kenya from Roseline Coffee in their gorgeous cafe. A tea grower who supplies The Jasmine Pearl Tea Merchants was kind enough to join the team for a presentation on the company's history and several different samples including sticky rice pu-erh, an herbal tea and two black teas. Oblique Coffee Roasters gave us a tour and the rich history of the house that holds the roasting operations and cafe, and we sipped Chemex brewed Ethiopian and Sumatran plus a drip brewed Nicaraguan as we soaked up the ambiance. p:ear stands for 'Education. Arts. Recreation' and provides a safe place for homeless youth looking for job skills, employment and housing. We sipped coffee and learned about the espresso bar being installed to provide applicable job skills for the kids they mentor. So much goodness happening in this space! Public Domain served up a cold brew blend of Peru & Colombia Tanzania peaberry, as well as a Guatamala v60 pourover from a two year direct trade relationship. Delicious! We learned all about lapsang, souchong and unroasted mate chai as we sipped the fragrant varieties at Townshend’s Tea. Rogue Ales & Spirits wound down several routes with a Stumptown collaboration Cold Brew IPA & great vibes.
