~ Sadie took a road trip to a latte art throwdown & Jason kept it real in KC ~ Living a few minutes away from Bindle Coffee means I'm only there (almost) every day - this week my faves were Mexico natural drip & a great capp. - Sadie Alex from Black Mesa was back in town for events and meetings. We joined forces for a homegrown hops infusion of their Kolsch with John of Bier Station's Saaz hops that he grew. Pete Dulin, author of KC Ale Trail, joined us at Waldo Pizza's Taproom for Black Mesa's sponsored Trivia Night. Great turnout, and lots of Kolsh and ESB for me last week. - Jason A barista trio road trip to Peoria, Illinois landed us behind the bar of thirty-thirty Coffee Co. for a latte art throwdown, and I took home a (fantastic!) grand prize. Generous sponsorship and awesome hosts - so much fun! - Sadie My neighborhood's vibe is a reminder that winter is right around the corner. In our house that means a lot of slow cooking and warmer drinks. Last week's best concoction was a mulled spice apple cider in the Crock Pot. The house smelled like a holiday showcase for two days. I added Darkhorse's Distillery's Reunion Rye Whiskey to mine. - Jason A latte art throwdown wouldn't be complete without local beer - we sipped brews from Two Brothers and DESTIHL in between pours. - Sadie Fresh off a week of endless amounts of KC coffee, I needed to switch to whiskey. Had a soothing pour of of Ransom Spirits' Whipper Snapper to start the week's evening schedule. - Jason Colorado to Illinois meant a breakfast stop in Omaha - Culprit Cafe and Bakery for beignets and Broadway Roasting brews, and Beansmith Coffee's sleek new space for pourovers to-go before hitting the road again. - Sadie I finished the last of my stash of Colorado wine from our last event in the state. Sadie will have to continue the local bottles without me for a few months. Last week were glasses of Blue Mountain Vineyards Pinot Noir and a Cabernet Franc from Colterris. - Jason A celebratory bottle of Maker's Mark bourbon was sipped post-throwdown, and we headed back to Fort Collins via KC for coffee at Parisi, Thou Mayest, Oddly Correct and Quay, & a lunch + beer stop at Beer Kitchen for brews from KC Bier Co. - Sadie Of course I still got out to KC coffee bars. Met Sadie, her sister and Derrick at Oddly as they passed through town, and also stretched my legs on Sunday with a walk through Brookside for a Columbia Las Mercedes from Messenger at Crows Coffee. Spent a decent amount of time at Midwest Coffee's new Brew Gallery for their first week open to the public. Go check them out. - Jason ~ Join the Conversation ~
