~ Our top 10 drinking experiences in Columbus, not in any order. A great city that treated us well. ~ Boston Stoker was a great host for the weekend adventures in Columbus. They were a kickoff site for several routes on the Caffeine Crawl at their new location on Neil, plus invited everyone back from their After Crawl Party where we sipped on crafty lattes with Pacific Foods barista series soy and beers from The Dayton Beer Co. and Rhinegeist Brewery. Our crew went home with a little Costa Rican coffee to brew throughout the week. IG - @thedaytonbeerco, @bostonstoker, @pacificfoods, @rhinegeist, and @caffeinecrawl At Stauf's, we had a brew of Papua New Guinea and great chat with Solani, who ran the action for their Crawl visits. On the Crawl, Tom and Solani served mini cupcakes alongside a pressured espresso Toddy, and talked about their long history as a local roaster. IG - @Staufs_coffee Crimson Cup put together two cold drinks - a creamy cold brew off their nitro taps and a new mocktail concoction not yet on the menu, but dynamite. Both drinks were great, but the coffee mocktail with a chamomile syrup was so tasty and unusual. We were staring at their growlers to-go, and if we weren't flying back home we would have gotten one. IG - @crimsoncupcoffee Michael and Jason went out with friends Leah and Tim the night before the Caffeine Crawl for cocktails at Mouton. We had a Ward 8, whiskey smash, and Pendennis Club mint julep (main blog image) with a spread of cheese and charcuterie. IG - @moutononhigh One Line Coffee had the biggest challenge on the Crawl with their location being in the middle of the Pride Fest Parade. They were champs and patient with all of us. The day before Jason went in for a really good espresso shot. On the Crawl they talked about roast profiles while setting up a cupping for us. Very educational and nice break from the floods outside. IG - Onlinecoffee There's a lot of excellent drinking holes in Columbus, but we found ourselves having beer at Melt twice. We had a few local brews - Seventh Son Brewing and Homestead Beer Co. and no-so local in Anderson Valley, Bell's and a Three Floyd's Gumball for Jason. And those friend macaroni balls will never be forgotten. This is a must hit Short North munchie spot especially for the nostalgic beer lover. IG - @homesteadbeerco, @meltbargrilled, @seventh_son_brewing, @andersonvalleybrewing, @3floydsbrewing, and @bellsbrewery The new The Roosevelt Coffeehouse had plenty of space for us in their new community-focused coffee and event space. We enjoyed a brew from local One Line and Earnest Eats snack the day before, and on the Crawl they served a coffee tonic over ice using Stumptown. A bright pop to it with the Fever Tree sparkling added in. IG - @therooseveltcoffeehouse, @earnesteats, @fevertree_uk, and @stumptowncoffee Cafe Brioso took divide and conquer to another level for their Crawl presentation. JJ and Robin went over espresso with steamed milk on the side, and Jeff's side tasted + discussed pourovers of a washed vs. natural. No complaints from Jason on that macchiatto he had Friday with that sweet milk and espresso Milano either. Another parade route success and great local hospitality. IG - @cafebrioso Our team has a soft spot for house made doughnuts. Fox in the Snow crushes the sweets and has an impressive variety of pastries and sandwiches. Jason stopped by before the Crawl for a Tandem Coffee espresso. During the Crawl, Jeff of FITS brewed New Orleans-style coffee for the groups. IG - @foxinthesnowcafe and @tandemcoffeeroasters Mike Habte and his family put on an engaging presentation at their shop with Mike's mother leading a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony at Upper Cup for the Caffeine Crawl. We had coffee from the presentation along with popcorn. IG - @UpperCup Jason got to try an Aeropress of Counter Culture at Mission Coffee, and then had other brew methods of different Counter Culture coffees on the actual Crawl. First a cold brew in the Chemex and then a Siphon with demonstration. IG - @missioncoffeeco and @counterculturecoffee We did a pretty good job supporting the Short North. Two other stops we made that were well worth noting was Jason's first dinner in town at Pies & Pints for a Homestead Bastille Saison and pizza. Michael and Jason needed to put some food in their tummies once the After Crawl was wrapped up. They walked to Philco Bar + Diner for grub and a few cocktails. Jason's Gin & Jam with Watershed Gin, housemade blueberry jam, lime juice, simple syrup and Gosling's ginger beer hit the spot.
