~ Michael and Jason "Crawl" through Indianapolis. ~ Hubbard & Cravens Coffee & Tea greeted us with a fire pit going outside for Saturday's Caffeine Crawl. That alone was soothing, but inside a few different brew options awaited. Tim talked to us about their nitro brew, and it was nice, plus Kyle brewed up a Bali on the Clover, an industry icon. - Jason & Michael Julian Coffee Roasters had a spread of drinks waiting for us for the Crawl. They were joined by local Joy Chai serving two of their chais. The Julian team was spread out serving a brew of half cascara (coffee cherry) and half coffee on tap, espresso options, and a single origin Mexican from the Curtis Gold Cup brewer. - Jason & Michael Tinker Coffee was the newest roaster on the Crawl, and they set up a cupping for us with their Kenya and Guatemala for an educational compare and contrast. - Jason & Michael Bee Coffee Roasters brought out their tasty new barrel-aged coffee for the Caffeine Crawl. They brewed Chemexes comparing their El Salvador Miravalle aged in alcohol barrels, and non-aged. - Jason & Michael Doughnuts and donuts were part of Indy's gems. At Rocket 88 Doughnuts doughnut holes were paired with Mile Square Coffee Roastery brews - a bottled cold brew and pourover of their blend for Rocket 88. - Jason & Michael Do you really think we'd work in Indianapolis, and not take part in the impressive local craft beer scene? We had several different beers from Sun King Brewing in Indy at Thirsty Scholar and at Bloomington's legendary Nick's for the IU vs. OSU 2nd half. A memorable moment! Thirsty also provided a nice wine by the glass list for us. - Jason & Michael At Quills Coffee we went in nose first for an open conversation and lesson on tasting coffee. Josh guided us from smelling the coffee to dissecting flavors with each sip. - Jason & Michael Victor at Bites by Confectioneiress is a beverage star. No doubts on our end. After blowing our mind last year, he brought back the coffee julep, and then a hopped coffee brew. On top of that, they were accompanied by this crazy-good Snickers-like dessert. - Jason & Michael General American Doughnut would be a must even if we weren't stopping by for work. Kari and her team had doughnuts and a brew from Stumptown Coffee for us on the Crawl. - Jason & Michael Jason was fighting off a chest cold, so Michael had to make up for him on the local craft beers. Together they had brews from Bloomington Brewing at Pizzology, and others from Flat 12 at the meatball palace, Mimi Blue. - Jason & Michael Community is such a key part of the Crawl, and Foundry Provisions focused on that. As we sipped cafe au laits or machiattos we had an active Q&A with the Herron High School art students. The students explained their work and how the coffee shop was the center of their creativity on this project. - Jason & Michael As mentioned above, we stopped by the Thirsty Scholar for drinks outside coffee, but Danielle's coffee mocktail, the Lady Killer, was a crowd pleaser. - Jason & Michael The first night of the Crawl wrapped up easily on Friday, and the shops felt good about the big Saturday ahead. Michael and Jason had cocktails and wine with Tim, his fiancé Leah, and Victor at Mesh. - Jason & Michael A special thanks to Tim with Brew The Way for all his help with Indianapolis. Also, Victor of Bites by Confectioneiress for his extra hospitality. Once again, you were wonderful, Indy!
