In lieu of our usual team top ten, we asked some of our friends to share a favorite coffee break moment. Grab a cup of your own and enjoy! ~~~ 1. One of my favorite coffee break moments recently wasn’t mine, but the reminder of the importance of needing a coffee break. I was catching up with a dear friend I hadn’t seen in a while, and when I asked him what he had been up to, he gave me the perfect answer: “Honestly, I’ve been having a lot of conversations over coffee, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Since the last time we had connected, we had gone through our own trials and tribulations. We aired our grievances about what we had been going through, but something else was sticking to me. We are all so busy rushing around that we forget to take a few minutes to sit with a friend, have a sip our coffee and enjoy our lives. What is forcing us to rush around and forget the bonds that are created around a shared cup? Although I don’t have the perfect coffee break moment right now, I want to encourage others to remember to take that well deserved moment. Pause for a second and think about who it is you want to reconnect to. You’d be surprised to find out how many people need that coffee break with a friend. ~ Michelle, Oklahoma City - Syrup 2. 5pm comes rollin round and I hit up the coolest coffee shop in town! Quay Coffee they say is where the fun's at, I grab an espresso but before I have sat... I run right into two people I know, this coffee community gives you more than Joe-to-go. We fall to talking and soon I am laughing. Espresso makes you giddy and good company leaves nothing lacking. ~ Savannah, Kansas City MO 3. Coffee can be a pick-me-up in more ways than one! There was a day last year that was feeling particularly down. I stopped by The Wild Boar Cafe in lovely Fort Collins for the best dang mocha in town. The barista asked me if I was okay. "I will be after this mocha," I replied. When he handed me my drink, I managed a huge smile on my face after seeing the funny little creature he created in my foam. I couldn't even tell if it was a bear, rabbit, walrus or dog. It didn't matter. It instantly made me feel better. ~ Malini, Fort Collins CO - entertainingfortcollins.com 4. My favorite recent coffee break moment was when I accidentally invented a new way to use the aeropress! ~ Jeff, NYC - angelscup.com 5. An all-day coffee break ~ Started with wake up at home to V-60 drip of Righteous Brothers roasted coffee from Tomball, TX Farmer’s Market. 1. On the road, local stop, Gourmet Bakery - a French bakery - for a Lavazza coffee espresso & learned my French word for the day ‘souirs’ (mice). 2. Road trip to H-town - first stop, Common Bond Cafe & Bakery for a Boomtown Coffee macchiato with side of mint macaron. 3. Next up, Red Dessert Dive - Boomtown Coffee cortado with a side of salted honey pie slice. 4. Onward to Crave Cupcakes - Katz Coffee espresso with side of apple cupcake. ~ Sharon, The Woodlands TX 6. Need proof that it's not always raining in Portland? The huge windows at Good Coffee's new location at SE Salmon and 12th are ready to take full advantage of the sun's (sometimes rare) appearances. And a cup of RoseLine's Kenya in a ceramic mug is pretty awesome, too! ~ Matt, Portland OR - Yelp PDX 7. On busy days, my favorite ritual is to go into Hodges Bend, breath, and take time to enjoy a shot of espresso. For a moment I stop thinking about the bottomless list of tasks to achieve. It's a simple reset button to go back and finish the day. ~ Mitchell, Tulsa OK - Topeca Coffee 8. These days I don’t much have time to savor drip coffee, though it really is okay- my truer passion lies in espresso; quick and precise, intense and moving. It had been 10 or so months since Ms. Silvia had graced me with her warmth. Quite literally, even, as her boiler had, since the year prior, burnt out. She was there all that time, though not quite herself. Her heart still pumping, though broken all the same. Simply going through the motions, not terribly present- she was, as it were, cold. And as she came back to life, thanks to a little elbow grease and the explicit help of my attentive superiors, I did. ~ Ozzie, Topeka KS - PT's Coffee Roasting Co. 9. Like in life.... sometimes you must go forth like a pioneer heading into the unknown. As you know, We spend most of our waking hours loving, living, breathing everything coffee. Analyzing every nuance of coffee. Last Saturday we found ourselves at sunrise with a single small unlabeled bag of beans. After spending way too much time attempting to piece together clues as to the origin of our bag of .... (well, it could be golden bliss or liquid nasty) we, for a change, simply ground, brewed and poured the mystery coffee into morning mugs and simply, oh so simply enjoyed time with each other chatting about all kinds of stuff over the best cup of coffee we have had in a long long time. ~Marty & Tooti, Kansas City MO - About The Coffee 10. There's something to be said about how a person can enjoy relaxing with coffee. Of all of the flavors, cultures, recipes, people, and activities surrounding the industry, the simple joy in stopping for coffee in the middle of a chaotic Monday is the best part. To enjoy that break with a few friends, and maybe even a few cigars, makes it one that is as memorable as it is life-giving. Tim, Florence KY - Guddina Coffee ~ Join the Conversation ~
